This is depressing:

"The entire debate rested on false premises. Americans think they are choosing between Harris’s policy vision and Trump’s. The media has demanded, with varying levels of success, that both candidates specify their programs, But the truth is there are only two realistic alternatives: divided government, or unified Republican control under Donald Trump."

Nothing we do here is going to make things better. We're only fighting as hard as we can to not make things _worse_.

Here's a reaction by a pretty right-wing website (that I've been growing to have increasing respect for over the years; I disagree with them but they do seem to have integrity), just to show the panic over Trump v United States is not just left-wing pearl clutching.

Sotomayor: "The President is now a king above the law."

"Roberts writes that such examples are mere “fear mongering,” but he noticeably does not even try to explain why or how his reasoning would avoid those very scenarios about which Sotomayor warns. Repeat: He just brushes it aside without actually addressing it, except to propose a countervailing hypothetical."

I'm experimenting with https://honkasaurus.world which lets me use an identity on my own website without needing to host Mastodon myself. The hope is this way I don't have to move identities if want to switch my Mastodon host. Janky but promising so far!
